MoU Signed in Kathmandu to Boost Crop Productivity, Post-Harvest Management, and Climate Resilience

KATHMANDU / Nepal, 15 April 2025: On the sidelines of the 3rd BIMSTEC Agriculture Ministerial level meeting held on Wednesday, India and Nepal further solidified their bilateral ties with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on ‘Cooperation in the Field of Agriculture’.

The agreement was formalised by India’s Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Nepal’s Union Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ram Nath Adhikari.

During the meeting, both ministers engaged in a review of the existing bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector and explored avenues to further enhance collaboration for mutual benefit.

The newly signed MoU is geared towards strengthening the ongoing partnership between the two neighbouring nations. Key areas of focus under this agreement include:

  • Enhancing crop productivity: Implementing strategies and sharing best practices to improve agricultural yields.
  • Improving post-harvest management and agri-marketing systems: Collaborating on technologies and infrastructure to reduce food waste and optimize market access for farmers.
  • Promoting climate resilience and sustainable agricultural practices: Working together to adopt environmentally friendly and climate-smart farming techniques.

This MoU underscores the shared commitment of both India and Nepal to ensure food security for their populations, improve the livelihoods of their farming communities, and advance environmentally sustainable agricultural practices. The agreement is expected to inject fresh momentum into the existing cooperation, particularly in the crucial areas of boosting crop productivity and enhancing post-harvest management and marketing efficiencies.
