THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, 17 November 2025: The Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (TRCMPU) of Milma will open the Thiruvananthapuram Dairy at Ambalathara to the public on November 24 and 25 as part of National Milk Day celebrations.
Visitors can tour the dairy between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., gaining a first-hand look at how the plant processes milk and manufactures Milma’s wide range of dairy products.
National Milk Day on November 26
India observes November 26 as National Milk Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, architect of the country’s White Revolution. Milma’s open-house event aims to highlight the cooperative dairy movement and promote awareness about modern milk processing systems.
Visitors to get live demonstration of milk processing
During the two-day visit, the public will be able to see:
How milk is collected from cooperative societies
Pasteurisation and sterilisation processes
Sachet filling using automated machinery
Distribution methods that deliver milk to homes across the district
Guided tours will also cover the production of Milma’s major products, including ghee, ice cream, butter, paneer and buttermilk. Visitors can purchase Milma products at special discounted rates during the event.
Student competitions on November 21 and 22
As part of the celebrations:
A quiz competition for high school and higher secondary students will be held on November 21
A painting competition will take place on November 22
Both competitions will be conducted at the Milma Dairy, Ambalathara from 9:30 a.m. Each school in Thiruvananthapuram district may send one team.
