NEW DELHI, 1 September 2025: A large gathering of farmer leaders from across India on Tuesday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his firm stand in ongoing trade negotiations, describing the government’s decision as “historic” and “farmer-friendly.”
Meeting Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Subrahmanyam Hall, Pusa Campus, representatives of various farmer organisations said they stood firmly with the Centre in its resolve to protect Indian agriculture from external pressures.
Leaders from the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh and several state-based organisations praised the Prime Minister’s stance against allowing foreign companies into sensitive sectors such as agriculture and dairy. They said the decision safeguarded the livelihoods of millions of farmers, livestock rearers, and fishermen.
“The Prime Minister has made an unwavering statement in the interest of farmers. India will not compromise their welfare at any cost,” said Dharmendra Choudhary, president of the Indian Farmer Chaudhary Charan Singh Organisation.
Farm leaders such as Virendra Lohan and Kirpa Singh Natthuwala highlighted the relief felt in villages and agricultural communities, while urging the government to remain firm on its free trade policy stance.
In his address, Shri Chouhan said the gathering represented “a miniature India” and reiterated that serving farmers was akin to worship. He announced that the government would soon bring in a law against the manufacture of spurious fertilisers and chemicals, alongside prioritising farmer welfare schemes.
The Minister also recalled the Prime Minister’s earlier decision to cancel the Indus Waters Treaty in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, describing it as an example of the government’s “Nation First” approach.
