ICAR-NRC organizes webinar on World Camel Day

The ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner, Rajasthan organized an International Webinar on “Camel, Climate Change and Globalization: Challenges for Science” on 22 June 2021.

BIKANER, 29 June 2021: The ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner, Rajasthan organized an International Webinar on “Camel, Climate Change and Globalization: Challenges for Science” on 22 June 2021.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) and Dr. Bhupendra Nath Tripathi, Deputy Director General (Animal Science), ICAR stated that the Webinar would help to generate interest for camel species’ conservation and developmental perspectives in establishing Camel as Dairy Animal.

The keynote speaker, Dr Bernard Faye, Founder Member & Chairman, ISOCARD & FAO Consultant, France highlighted the changes in camel population at the global level, milk and meat production, changes in pastoralism and availability of flora and fauna.

Referring to the global situation of camel products, Dr Faye accentuated on enhancing its productivity for development and conservation of camel species and to use marketing approaches for achieving better growth.

The use of camels in surveillance work by the military and paramilitary services and tourism in its new dimensions increasing its utility, reflecting its relevance in the society, even today, Dr. A.K. Gahlot, Former Vice-Chancellor, Rajasthan University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Bikaner, Rajasthan stressed.

Dr. A.K. Tyagi, ADG, ICAR stated that the range fed of camels have certain fatty acids of medicinal values which need to be looked into while assigning its role as a dairy animal.

Emphasizing on the need for diverse use of camels to check on the dwindling numbers in the world, Dr. Artabandhu Sahoo, Director, ICAR-NRC on Camel, Bikaner stressed on developing the low cost feeding modules in the present scenario.

Around 20 Camel Farmers and Entrepreneurs participated in the Farmers’ Interaction Meet organized during the occasion.
