Haryana launches cattle insurance scheme

Haryana state has recently launched cattle insurance scheme (Pashudhan Bima Yojana) in the state that will benefit cattle breeders across the state.

, 31 July 2016 : Haryana state has recently launched cattle insurance scheme (Pashudhan Bima Yojana) in the state that will benefit cattle breeders across the state.

While speaking after the launch of the scheme, state animal husbandry and dairying minister, OP Dhankar asked the cattle breeders to enroll for the scheme and utilize it for their benefit.

For just Rs 100 premium, the state will provide insurance to cows, buffaloes, bulls, camels and for sheep, goat, pig the premium is kept only Rs 25 for a period of three years.

The insurance companies would give compensation in case of death of an animal. The scheme is free of cost for cattle breeders belonging to Scheduled Castes therefore no premium would be charged from them.

Dhankar said that Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana) and Cattle Insurance Scheme (Pashudhan Bima Yojana) are  the result of recommendations made in Swaminathan Report.

Under this scheme, the ministry has set a target to cover 100,000 cattle, the minister adds.

The Government is committed to provide the cattle breeders an identity and remunerative price for their produce.
