NEW DELHI, 12 June 2021: Superplum, an Indian start-up backed by some of Silicon Valley's most notable names, introduces its innovative cold chain solution for fresh produce, the Fresherator.

The projected market size of fresh produce in India is USD 300 billion. With the rise in consumption, the projected shortfall of fresh fruit in India will be reaching above 60mm tons annually by 2030.

Lack of farm infrastructure, a modern supply chain, and cold chain transport leads to 25 percent-30 percent food wastage and overall low quality. Less than 2 percent of the fresh produce sold is transported in a cold chain, decreasing the overall efficiency of the sector. Other developing countries also face similar issues.

Superplum has addressed the huge issue of a modern transport network for fresh produce in India by designing the Fresherator, a unique solution for India and other countries lacking reefer infrastructure. The Fresherator container converts any truck into a state-of-the-art Reefer vehicle with remote management of temperature, oxygen, humidity, and ethylene levels of fresh produce.

The solution can also automatically adjust ideal settings depending on the fruits carried from point A to point B. It drastically increases the availability of refrigerated transport and lowers costs as well. The company has successfully carried fresh produce over more than 150,000 km over the last year and will be scaling up its network over the next few years.

The system is integrated with the company's software management system as well to provide reliability and predictability. Therefore, as a result it provides better quality and fresh fruits to the consumer.

Shobhit Gupta, Founder & CEO, Superplum, said, "We have designed a unique cold chain technology, that addresses a significant issue in India's food supply network. This enables us to sidestep India's severe shortage of reefers and the country's existing agriculture supply chains with our team of agriculture experts, logistics team, and software engineers. We all are working together to ensure modern technology and new solutions can bridge the long-standing gap between Indian farms and Indian consumers. "

Superplum, a start-up backed by some of Silicon Valley's most notable investors, is addressing Indian agriculture's endemic issues by building the country's most sophisticated supply chain for fresh produce. The company works with farmers across the country to ensure product quality right from the source.
