KVK organized national webinar to enhance farmers’ income on vegetable nutrition security

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab under the aegis of ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Ludhiana, Punjab organized a National Webinar on “Vegetables for Nutrition Security and Enhancing Farmers’ Income.”

PUNJAB, 24 June 2021: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab under the aegis of ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Ludhiana, Punjab organized a National Webinar on “Vegetables for Nutrition Security and Enhancing Farmers’ Income.”

The webinar was organized on the theme “Enhancing the income of the farmers through quality seed production, processing and post-harvest management scope and development of Nutri-gardens for nutrition security.”

ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute Director Dr. Rajbir Singh stated that the vegetable crops’ role in doubling the farmer’s income by using advanced technologies. He urged the KVKs for developing two Nutri-Smart Villages in each District for nutrition security at the household level.

ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Director Dr. TK Behera outlined the ways for enhancing the vegetable crops’ productivity under the changing climatic scenario at the field level and its processing for increasing the profitability.

Punjab Horticultural Post-harvest Technology Centre Ludhiana, Punjab, Director Dr. BVC Mahajan stressed on giving special importance to post-harvest technologies and processing in managing the situation like the glut of these crops.

General Manager Rajnish Tuli of Punjab Agro Industries highlighted the new Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises” launched as a part of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

The webinar was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mohotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence in which more than 150 stakeholders including progressive vegetable growers participated.
