NEW DELHI, 27 August 2025: The 5th meeting of the India-South Africa Joint Working Group (JWG) on Agriculture was convened virtually on Tuesday, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation in the agricultural and allied sectors.

The session was co-chaired by Shri Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary (IC), Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Mr. Thapsana Molepo, Acting Director, International Trade Promotion, South Africa. Officials from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) of South Africa, and other ministries attended the meeting.

Mr. Sahu highlighted India’s remarkable achievements in agriculture, citing digital solutions, promotion of climate-resilient practices, risk mitigation strategies, and government-led credit initiatives.

Mr. Molepo underscored South Africa’s priorities, expressing interest in collaboration across the seed sector, extension services, and capacity building. He reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to strengthening the partnership with India in critical agricultural areas.

Both sides explored opportunities for joint research, knowledge exchange, capacity development, and improved market access through closer cooperation between ICAR and ARC.

The meeting, officials noted, marks an important step in broadening bilateral agricultural collaboration, which is expected to boost innovation, productivity, and sustainable farming practices in both countries.
