, 02 August 2016 : In order to increase milk production in the state, the newly created state, Telangana’s State Livestock Development Agency (TSLDA) has decided to launch a ‘white revolution’ in the state by adding good breedable milch animals.

The state also wants the farmers to take up dairy units as alternate source of income.

Karimnagar Dairy, Chairman, Ch Rajeshwara Rao, who is also district livestock development association (DLDA) chairman has said that Telangana has 3.85 million breedable cattle population. But, only 765,000 cattle’s were given artificial insemination.

This account for only 20 per cent of the breeding cattle’s.

Speaking on milk production in the state, Rao said that state was producing only 4.44 million tonnes of milk and this will increase to 10 million tonnes in the next few years, after all the cattle’s are brought under artificial insemination scheme.

To increase artificial insemination to more number of animals by getting hybrid bulls,as well as setting up two frozen semen stations would help achieve self-sufficiency in frozen semen doses production and supply to all the farmers and help in increasing milk production.

Currently, only one frozen bull semen station was functioning in Karimnagar with only 79 bulls.

The state government has decided to increase the numbers of bulls to 120 and soon semen production will increase to 3 million doses, as compared to 1.2 million doses today.

Apart from this, another Frozen Semen Station would also be established at Kamsanpalli village in Mahbubnagar district under the National Programme on Bovine Breeding (NPBB) at a cost of $800,000 in a sprawling 36.12 acres to produce 2 million lakhs frozen semen doses per annum.

Other than this, farmers will also be educated about the live stock insurance scheme for providing insurance to milching animals with the contribution of only 50 per cent of premium and remaining would be paid by Union Government.
