KOCHI, 29 October 2024: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ernakulam of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) will conduct a comprehensive skill development programme under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

The course titled ‘Small organic cultivator’ aims to provide industry-relevant skill training to enable the youth of India to secure sustainable livelihoods and employment opportunities.

The 27-day event, scheduled to begin in mid-November, will provide participants with hands-on training in sustainable organic farming practices. Key areas of focus include integrating livestock into farming systems, converting farm biomass to organic manure, efficient land preparation techniques, crop management, organic pest control methods, and strategies for marketing organic produce. The curriculum is designed to equip trainees with the skills required to start and manage their own organic farming ventures, thus contributing to both personal growth and the broader vision of a sustainable agriculture economy. The initiative is in line with PMKVY's objective of promoting skill development for self-employment and enhancing employability in agriculture.

Individuals who have completed at least their 12th-grade education, are below the age of 45 and residents of Ernakulam district are eligible to attend the training. The programme will have a maximum intake of 25 participants and will be conducted at CMFRI. Upon successful completion of the assessment conducted by the Agricultural Skill Council of India (ASCI), participants will receive certification.

For registration and further details, interested individuals are requested to contact KVK Ernakulam at 9400257798. Participation in this programme is free of charge, as per PMKVY’s guidelines, ensuring inclusivity and support for aspiring organic farmers.
