NAGAUR, 25 December 2025: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has outlined a broad package of agricultural support and rural infrastructure investments at a large farmers’ conference held in Merta City, Nagaur district, Rajasthan. The event was attended by senior state leadership, including Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, state agriculture minister Kirodi Lal Meena and other political representatives.
At the conference, Chouhan announced the release of ₹2,089 crore for the construction of 12,600 rural roads across Rajasthan, underscoring the central government’s focus on last-mile connectivity and agrarian infrastructure. He said the state has witnessed accelerated development over the past two years, aligning with the Centre’s vision of building a self-reliant economy.
Chouhan highlighted rapid progress in Rajasthan’s agricultural sector, citing the development of high-yielding, climate-resilient seed varieties and a reduction in input costs. Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), he said farmers in the state have received cumulative assistance of ₹9,000, combining central and additional state support. Over the past two years, Rajasthan has received ₹29,000 crore under the crop insurance scheme, with reforms introduced to mandate a 12% interest payout if insurers delay claim settlements.
On price support, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement. For the current season, the Centre has approved procurement of 3.05 lakh metric tonnes of moong valued at nearly ₹2,680 crore from Rajasthan, alongside planned procurement of groundnut and ongoing soybean purchases. He assured that MSP mechanisms would be deployed whenever required to stabilise farmer incomes.
Chouhan also outlined reforms under the newly enacted ‘Viksit Bharat – Gram’ framework, which increases guaranteed employment days from 100 to 125 and assigns a larger role to Gram Panchayats in village-level planning. Annual MGNREGA expenditure has reached ₹1.11 lakh crore, with a proposed allocation of ₹1.51 lakh crore this year.
Looking ahead, the minister said the government plans to introduce new legislation, including a Seed Act and a bill targeting fake fertilisers, signalling tighter regulation and enforcement across the agricultural value chain.
