KVK’s millet-fish fest to host recipe contest

Ernakulam Krishi Vigyan Kendra of the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) will organise a recipe contest at the upcoming ‘Millet-Fish’ fest to be held on December 28-30 at CMFRI.

KOCHI, 23 December 2023: Ernakulam Krishi Vigyan Kendra of the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) will organise a recipe contest at the upcoming ‘Millet-Fish’ fest to be held on December 28-30 at CMFRI.

The theme of the contest is millet-fish combo meal for Kerala youth. Foxtail millet, kodo millet, finger millet, little millet, barnyard millet, pearl millet and sorghum can be used with any of the locally available fish to prepare dishes for the contest. 

The contest is open to individuals above the age of 15 residing in Kerala. The winner of the contest will receive a cash prize of Rs. 7500, with Rs. 5000 and Rs. 2500 awarded to the second and third place holders respectively. 

Those willing to participate should submit their recipe ideas not exceeding 250 words through google form on or before December 25. Candidates will be shortlisted for the contest based on criteria, including innovation, cultural relevance, nutritional value, interest and appeal to Kerala youth and extent of using millet and fish. The Millet-Fish fest will feature a variety of activities, including a buyer-seller meet, millet and fish food festival, live fish sale, sale of millet and millet-based products, millet cookery show, technology exhibition, product launch, nutrition and health talks and seminars.

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) in Hyderabad, ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research in Hyderabad, ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Commissionerate of Food Safety Kerala, National Institute of Fisheries Post Harvest Technology and Training (NIFPHATT), the Society for Assistance to Fisherwomen (SAF), Food Crafts Institute, Kalamassery, Kerala Hotel and Restaurants Association, All Kerala Bakers Association and All India Radio Kochi FM among many others are partners of the event.
