Amul selects Amazon to enter US markets

In order to expand its reach in the United States, India's largest dairy cooperative with 3.6 million members, Amul has selected Amazon to sell its products in the US.

ANAND, 02 December 2016 : In order to expand its reach in the United States, India's largest dairy cooperative with 3.6 million members, Amul has selected Amazon to sell its products in the US.

The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) under the Global Selling programme partnership will offer Amul’s Ghee and Gulab Jamun to consumers in America.

Though Amul is exporting it products to the US, this will be the first time the cooperative will be catering directly to over 3 million non-residents Indians (NRIs).

 Initially, Amul will sell only two products, but later on other products like cheese and butter will be added.

Speaking to a newswire, GCMMF (Amul) Managing Director, R S Sodhi said with this partnership we will have a presence in every home in the US.

Adding further, Sodhi said that currently, Amul exports $5.1 million worth of dairy products to the US market annually, which accounts for 1-2 per cent of our turnover.

Amazon had launched its ‘Global Selling Program’ in India in May last year in order to facilitates access for Indian sellers to sell their products to consumers across the globe.

The programme has witnessed 70 per cent increase in seller base as compared to last year with over 18,000 Indian sellers selling over 25 million products globally across nine of Amazon’s global marketplaces.

Speaking on this, Amazon India Director and GM (Seller Services) Gopal Pillai said, “Through this programme, we will offer Amul an end-to-end solution and help the brand cater to the growing appetite for quality Indian food products amongst global consumers.”  

The programme offers end-to-end solution that includes assisting sellers with imaging, logistics, tax advisory and remittance.
