September 12, 2025

Rasi Seeds partners with ICAR-IGFRI to provide high-quality forage seeds, bridging the green fodder gap and supporting India’s dairy farmers.

JHANSI, 12 September 2025: In a bid to enhance the availability of quality green fodder for the dairy sector, Rasi Seeds has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute (ICAR-IGFRI), Jhansi.

The agreement was signed by R. Rajendran, Managing Director of Rasi Seeds, and N. Saravanan, Business Head of Sira Seeds, in the presence of Pankaj Kaushal, Director of ICAR-IGFRI, and Vijay Kumar Yadav, Project Coordinator (Forage Crops), AICRP on Forage Crops and Utilization. The partnership grants Rasi Seeds access to two improved varieties of berseem and oats, which will be marketed under its forage brand, Sira Seeds.

With over 2.5 million hectares under berseem and oats cultivation in the country, the initiative is expected to help bridge the gap in green fodder demand and supply. Timely access to superior forage seeds is projected to benefit dairy farmers by improving livestock nutrition and productivity.

“Through this MoU, we aim to deliver scientifically validated, high-yielding forage varieties to farmers,” Rajendran said. He added that the Sira brand will focus on addressing the shortage of quality forage seeds in India.

The collaboration supports the national vision of a White Revolution 2.0, aimed at strengthening the dairy value chain through sustainable and science-driven agricultural practices. By improving fodder availability, the initiative is expected to enhance milk yields, reduce feed costs, and improve livelihoods for dairy farmers across India.
