MARGAO, 27 January 2018 : Seafood sector being a very important industry growing in a double digit has caught attention of India commerce ministry.
During the 21st India International Seafood Show 2018, Indian commerce minister, Suresh Prabhu said that we will come out with a comprehensive road map plan to double seafood exports in the next three months.
The minister also said that there is huge opportunity for Indian seafood exports abroad and if they do value addition, they can capture the market.
The minister also said that very soon, the ministry will be organizing a buyer-seller meet for Indian seafood exporters in India, where buyers from other countries can come at one place to check what Indian seafood exporters have to offer them, rather our seafood exporters going other countries in search of new clients.
Speaking on the plan, the minister said that the plan will include measures to strengthen aquaculture production in states, potential collaborations, marketing and integration of supply chains.
Prabhu said, "The ministry will task the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) and the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) to come up with a detailed strategy? including what the states need and can do to build robust aquaculture and fisheries industries ? in the next three months and facilitate its immediate implementation.
Inland fishery is a priority area for the government and the aim is to create a system for all 13 coastal states to work in tandem for aquaculture development, he added.
The government also proposes to create 10 marketing offices around the world to promote and create brand equity for Indian products.
The three day event, 21st India International Seafood Show 2018 is jointly organized by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) and the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) in Margoa Goa from January 27-29.
The event was inaugurated by Goa chief minister, Manohar Parikar, along with agriculture minister, Vijay Sardesai and state fisheries minister on January 27, 2018.
