Workshop on digital crop survey held in New Delhi recently

MoUs signed with 6 states to initiate the project

NEW DELHI, 4 June 2023: A Workshop on Digital Crop Survey was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), Government of India on 25 May 2023 in New Delhi.

The event was attended by Dr. Pramod Kumar Meherda, Additional Secretary, Government of India; Ajay Tirkey, Secretary, Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Government of India; Manoj Ahuja, Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), Government of India; Mrs Ruchika Gupta, Adviser, MoA&FW, Government of India; Rajeev Chawla, Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO) & Advisor, DA&FW, Government of India; and Hukum Singh Meena, Additional Secretary, DoLR, Government of India.

The workshop was organized to discuss the implementation of the Digital Crop Survey project. The project aims to create a digital database of all crops grown in India. The database will be used to track crop production, monitor crop health, and provide farmers with information and resources.

Dr. Pramod Kumar Meherda, in his welcome address, said that the Digital Crop Survey project is a major initiative of the government to improve agricultural productivity and farmers' income. He said that the project will use the latest technology to collect and analyze data on crop production. This data will be used to provide farmers with information on crop prices, weather conditions, and best practices.

Ajay Tirkey, in his address, said that the Digital Crop Survey project will be implemented using a decentralized approach. He said that the states will be responsible for collecting data on crop production at the village level. This data will be collected using a variety of methods, including drones, satellite imagery, and ground surveys.

Manoj Ahuja, in his address, said that the Digital Crop Survey project will be a valuable tool for farmers. He said that the project will help farmers to improve their crop yields, reduce their input costs, and increase their income.

The workshop was concluded with the signing of MoUs between the State Governments of Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India.

The MoUs will enable the states to initiate the Digital Crop Survey project in their respective states.
